Abstract :
Lipomas are bening tumors of mesenchymatic origin, caused by adipocyte proliferation. Those arising in the hand are relatively rare. Giant lipomas may cause pain, discomfort, weakness and neuropathies by pressure on adjacent structures. Giant lipomas of the hand are space-occupying lesions that may mimic carpal tunnel syndrome. To know preoperatively that the extent of the tumor and its relation to carpal tunnel is closely associated with good surgical results. If the tumor is well-defined with the aid of a careful examination and imaging techniques, some unnecessary surgical interventions, such as carpal tunnel release may be avoided. Herein, a patient with giant lipoma that mimic carpal tunnel syndrome was reported and the importance of preoperative evaluation was emphasized .
