Abstract
The Ottoman Empire had its golden age in the sixteenth century in the seas as well as on land. Ottoman sailors fought against Christian crusaders with the Spanish in Algeria, Libya and Tunisia, and made these places a part of the Empire. Among these sailors was one of the most important names, Turgut Reis. Both Turks and Europeans regarded Turgut Reis as a great sailor in the sixteenth century. Dedicating his life to seas, Turgut Reis died in the siege of Malta. Upon his will, his grave was built in Tripoli, where he was once a governor. The purpose of the current study was to determine how this great sailor who had profound remarks in the history of Turkish Navy.
