Foreign Language Anxiety in High School Students: A Qualitative Study

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate the reasons of foreign language learning anxiety levels of high school students. The sample of the study consisted of twenty-four students from three high schools in Nigde province in 2012–2013 academic year. While selecting the students in the sample, it was paid attention that students had high levels of foreign language learning anxiety. In this study, semi-structured illustrative qualitative research method was used. The data of this study were analysed through “content analysis technique”. According to the findings of the study, it was concluded that the reasons of foreign language learning anxiety of high schools students were summoned in seven themes such as speaking activities, listening activities, teaching methods and techniques, fear of making error, learning environment, teachers’ attitudes, and exams in the research.
