  • Abstract
This study aimed at developing a valid and reliable scale to be used in determining music teacher candidates self-efficacy beliefs in instrument performance regarding personal musical instruments. The participants of the study included 313 music teacher candidates. Exploratory factor analysis was conducted to determine the construct validity of the scale. The exploratory factor analysis indicated that the scale included three sub-dimensions, namely, self-efficacy, self-inefficacy, and psychological indicators and was composed of 20 items in the five-point Likert style. The total variance accounted for is 48.81%. The values of the factor loadings of the items in the scale vary between 0.47 and 0. 76. The reliability of the scale was determined through the value of Cronbach s alpha. The Cronbach s alpha values of the sub-dimensions of the scale are determined respectively for self-efficacy as .86, self-inefficacy as .76, and for psychological indicators as .61. The findings obtained through this study reveal that the Self-Efficacy Scale of Musical Instrument Performance can be used to determine music teacher candidates self-efficacy beliefs in musical instrument performance regarding personal musical instruments.
