Abstract :
The aim of the study is to develop a scale evaluating the perceptions of athletes’ who compete in team sports regarding the charismatic leadership of their coaches. As for the purposes of the study, firstly a thorough literature review was carried out to define “charismatic leadership” and identify its various dimensions. In the second phase, three “focus group interviews” were conducted to determine the dimensions of charismatic leadership and various factors forming these dimensions. These interviews were audio recorded and the data obtained were analyzed. In order to conduct reliability and validity of the data obtained from these interviews, a pilot study has been planned to be conducted. The subjects of the study are a total of 164 female and male basketball players currently playing in various leagues in Turkey who agreed to fill out the scale. Prior to EFA and CFA, KMO values, which measure the suitability of sampling size for factor analysis, were calculated as ,775. The Cronbach Alfa values of ten dimensions determined according to AFA results range between .873 and .681. As for the evaluation of the consistency of the data obtained from confirmatory factor analysis, various fit indexes were examined such as Chi square, RMSEA, CFI, NNFI, RMR, NFI, AGFI. Based on the data obtained, it can be concluded that the scale developed is statistically reliable and consistent with empirical data used in the analysis. According to the results of the analyses, the scale called “Charismatic Leadership Scale”, which consists of ten factors and 35 items, can be used as data collection tool in related future studies.
