INVESTIGATE THE EFFECTS OF IMAGERY PRACTICE TO SKILLS DEVELOPMENT FOR 9 - 13 YEARS SWIMMING ATHLETES
Abstract :
The aim of this study, determine the effects of imagery practice to skills development for 9 – 13 years swimming athletes. Pamukkale University, Youth and Sports Club 46 athletes (X=10.97±1.25) participated. Athletes are grouped according to their age of sport. 12 athletes, “Control Group”, 11 athletes, “Imagery Group”, 12 athletes, “Training Group” and 11 athletes in the “Imagery Training Group” as scattered. Prepared by the researchers, “The Observation Table of Freestyle Return Skill” is used as a data collection tool. Pattern of the study is pre-test – post-test, control group. The athletes were recorded their freestyle return videos by researcher. After, three different swimming trainers watched to scoring in the range of “1” to “5” points. As a end of the four week imagery practice, post-test was recorded and were watched to scored by the same trainers. Athletes belong to the groups solutions for the total score means of observation tables using descriptive statistics, frequency, mean and standard deviation analysis, inferential statistics, the One-Way Analysis of Variance and The ANOVA of Repeated Measures tests were used. According to research results, athletes of pre-test and post-test measurements weren’t found significant difference between groups and in the groups. The regardless of groups separation was a significant difference pre-test and post-tests of athletes. As a result, practice of imagery practice for the development of sport skills in children under 12 years of age on the literature advocated the view that the limited effectiveness. The result of this research has been supporting the work of literature.
