AN INVESTIGATION ON METACOGNITIVE AWARENESS LEVELS OF SCHOOL OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION AND SPORT STUDENTS
Abstract :
The aim of this study is to assess the metacognitive awareness levels of school of physical educationand sport students and to investigate these levels in the context of their department and gender.291 students were selected byconvenience sampling method (physical education=130, coaching education=88,sports management=73)from three different department volunteeredto participatein this study. Study sample consisted of 93 female and 198 male students. Data of this study were collected using the Metacognitive Awareness Inventory which was developed by Schraw and Dennison (1994) and adapted by Akın et al. (2007) into Turkish. Results demonstrated that levels of metacongnitive awareness of the school of physical education and sports students were mid range ( x female= 180.97, x male= 193.37) and significant difference were determined between genders (t=-2.414, p .05). Another finding of this study was that the metacognitive awareness scores of students in physical education and sport teaching department were significantly lower( x =182.22)than the scores of students in the sports management department ( x =194.36) and coaching education department ( x =195.91) and these differences were significant (F=5.028, p .01).
