BIBLIOMETRIC ANALYSIS OF TURKISH SCIENTIFIC PUBLICATIONS IN THE FIELD OF SPORTS

Abstract
Using bibliometric data, this study compares articles and conference proceedings, which are written in the field of sports by Turkish researchers and indexed by Web of Science (WoS), with worldwide aspects. Within this scope, data regarding publications in the field of sports for 2000-2010 periods were taken and using these data, Turkish publications were compared with selected countries and globally, in terms of quality and quantity. Results showed that number of Turkish publications indexed in WoS had increased during 2000-2010 period. However, in terms of quality indicators, such as number of citations, rate of non-cited publications and rate of publications written with international collaboration, Turkey found to be performed below the world average. Accordingly, Turkish researchers, who are working in the field of sports, need to boost their publications in terms of quality, impact and visibility and enhance their international cooperation efforts while preparing scientific publications.
