AN APPLICATION ON IMPROVING THE READING LEVELS OF STUDENTS HAVING DIFFICULTY IN READING
Abstract :
In this study, the effects of some strategies applied for improving the reading skills of the primary school 3rd grade students who have reading difficulties. The study has been carried out with a student who has reading difficulty and been attending Piyalepaşa Primary School, Mamak, in Ankara, in 2007-2008 academic year fall term. According to the level of the student, the researcher has student read an application text so as to determine the level of the student’s aloud reading performance before the application. As a result of this pre-application the student’s reading level has been determined as being at an anxiety level. Applications basing on repeated reading and paired reading strategies have been carried out during the study considering the problems that student had in order to improve the student’s reading skill. At the end of the study, it has been seen that the student’s reading level is improved from anxiety stage to teaching level.
