THE TREND OF THE DEBTS IN TIMES OF CRISIS IN TURKEY: 1994 AND 2001 CRISES

An unexpected increase in the debt burden and the public sector’s borrowing requirement has occured in Turkey especially after the beginning of the 1990s and this situation has been an important factor in the formation of economic crises. The 1994 and 2001 crises in Turkey, have caused an increase in the public debt burden and the precautions and the stabilization programs taken against these crises have usually failed. The aim of the study is to reveal the debt-crisis relationship in times of crisis especially in 1994 and 2001 crises by analyzing Turkey s economic situation.
