THE ROLE OF FOREIGN TRADE IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF LOGISTICS INDUSTRY IN TURKEY AND CAUSALITY ANALYSIS
Abstract :
In this study, the interaction between the logistic sector which is the strategic sector, and the foreign trade which is the most important factor in the development of Turkey is examined. The reasons affecting the development of logistics sector in Turkey are discussed, and the development of these causes in Turkey is studied analytically. The increase in the numbers of shopping centers which is effective in terms of development of warehousing activities and the increase in the volume of e-commerce are emphasized, and it is explained with the reasons behind and the support of literature review that how the development of foreign trade has influenced logistic sector positively. In the application part of study, the transportation data are used for logistics and the data of import and export for foreign trade. The relationship between the logistics and the foreign trade has been studied in its causality dimension by means of Granger Causality Test. According to the findings, it has been determined that there is a two-way causal relationship between the foreign trade and the logistic in Turkey s economy, and also a causal relationship between transportation revenues and exports. In a long-term analysis, the volume of transport represented for logistic sector and the volume of foreign trade in Turkey s economy are co-integrated, and both come to equilibrium in the long run.
