Abstract :
Rituals about life before and after death have important place in Turkmen culture. For this reason, some ceremonies are organized during and after death. Funeral ceremonies and grave visits of Turkmens who have rich cultural heritage construct the social solidarity and dynamism and encourage sharing. In this article, “participant observation, reference person, broadened literature review” techniques are used. In addition to this, photos are taken during grave visits in Turkmenistan and reference people are met while visiting various graves in Turkmenistan. Main point of this research is to observe rituals and prayers before and after funeral ceremonies in Turkmenistan and to determine the similarities and differences in cultures of Turmenistan and Turkey by benefiting from written and alive sources in Turkmenistan Turkish and Turkey Turkish.. Results in this research imply that while some of Turkmenistan rituals reflect the remainings of Shamanism, some of them are recognized and widened with Islam and examples to those rituals are as following: performing salaat on desert sands without socks, putting coin inside shoes, giving money to ones who come to funeral, wearing “telpek” in the 3th, 7th, 30th and 40th days after death, tasting meals a little, hanging deer horn and putting stair on graves. Even if Turkmens changed the places where they live, they did not change their cultural codes. This paper is descriptive, definitive and explanatory in nature.
