Abstract :
One of the important religious phenomena is tomb and entombed saint visitation has been practiced by Anatolian Alawis in general and Adiyaman Alawis in particular. Religious, cultural, social and historical factors lie behind these tomb and entombed saint phenomena. These visitation places are not only tombs and entombed saints, but also are may be mountain, rock or tree. In this study, we tried to examine the visitations of Alawis, who live in Adiyaman province and districts, to tombs and entombed saints where the saints or mahatmas below ground. Firstly, the concepts of tomb and entombed saints are examined in studyand meaning and importance of these visitations for Alawis are explained. Then, historical positions of Adiyaman are given, and finally, tombs and entombed saints, where are visited by Adiyaman Alawis, are highlighted–keynote speech. Approximately 20-25 tombs are visited regularly by the Alawis of Adiyaman. In the study acquired through using interview and descriptive method, the tomb and entombed saint visitations of Adiyaman Alawis has been tried to determine paying regard to rules and conventions. In the end, there is an assessment of us about the tomb and entombed saint visitations of Alawis in terms of public beliefs.
