Abstract :
The name of Dedigi Sultan, one of the religious personalities with a dervish lodge erected in his name in the region of Mahmuthisar-Ilgin-Konya,is catching attention. According to the religious anecdotes,Dedigi Sultan is one of the first colonist dervishes connected with Hodja Ahmed Yesevi. He is a contemporary of the well-known Sufi personalities in Anatolia like Haci Bektash Veli,Mevlana Celalettin Rumi,Amir Sultan,Karaca Ahmet,Seyit Harun Veli and members of the dynasty of Sultan Alaeddin and Kadincik Ana. The dedigi word in the name of Dedigi Sultan, whose real name is considered to be Şeyh Halit (Sheikh Khalid),had been read and pronounced differently by many. Although there are some etymological explanations for the origin of the various reiterations and pronunciations dediʇi,didiʇi,dedegi, dedeki, didi, dede begi, dediyi, dedini their accuracy are questionable. In the present study, light will be shed whether the word dediʇi is derived from demek (to say) verb as written Menakipname and accepted by the public or is a sample for localization of words.
