A RESEARCH ON THE SIMILARITY BETWEEN AHI ZAWIYAHS AND DJEMEVIS
Abstract :
Zawiyahs appeared in line with the tradition of the Suffa Companions and spread in the Is¬lamic World in the 9th and 12th centuries in parallel with the spread of Islamic mysticism. In addition to being places where dervishes prayed and took courses, zawiyahs provided the security of the towns where they were established, so they had a contribution in the imp¬rovement of trade. It is possible to say that the most developed Zawiyahs, which spread in the various regions of the Islamic World, were seen in Anatolia. Ahi Zawiyahs also had great importance among the zawiyahs which has spread in all villages and towns of Anatolia since 13th century. The events, which especially happened during the fall of Turkey Seljuk State, caused Ahis to stay with Turkmens in their villages and town so that they could maintain the¬ir customs. It is possible to say that this situation went on for centuries after the foundation of the Ottoman Empire. When the sources giving information about this historical process are analysed, it is clearly seen that the manners and customs remains in Alevi and Bektashi communities and various rituals belonged to Ahi Zawiyahs, which also exist in Djemevis. In this study, the similarities between Ahi Zawiyahs and Djemevis will be analysed and whether Ahi Zawiyas are the prototype of Djemevis will be searched.
