ABOUT OTMAN BABA’S CULT
Abstract :
Otman Baba has emerged as a heterodox Turkish Sufi in the geography of Rumeli XV. century. He is a prominent personality in sufizm in this region. He has left remarkable a trace in sufi tradition. Otman Baba’s abdals have been active in the Rumelia in many cities, towns and villages. They have tried to influence the people in this area by inviting them to their own cults. They also interacted with other sects in this area. These activities have both increased the number of Otman Baba and his abdals and provided them to become a more systematic sect. Otman Baba Velâyetnâmesi is an important source to undestand this process. At the same time, there are few sources to reveal this period in detail. In addition to this, his cult became a controversial issue. Thus, Otman Baba’s historical personality and Sufi movement in Rumelia is object of curiosity. In this study, Otman Baba’s cult, the sheikh and his the leadership is discussed.
