Abstract :
This research was carried out with the aim to determination dry matter (DM) accumulation in the parts of growth and development periods of spring safflower cultivars in Isparta ecological conditions at the Agricultural Faculty Research and Application Farm of Suleyman Demirel University. Safflower cultivars Dinçer 5-118, Yenice 5-38, Remzibey 05 and line Gelendost 1 were used as experimental materials. In the study, dry matter accumulation in vegetative and generative parts (rosette, first budding, full budding, first blooming, full blooming, seed filling and maturity) depending growth stages were observed. Total DM production and dry matter accumulated in the parts of plant were significant varied according to cultivars. In the research, 6.00- 6.93%, 21.97-33.12%, 4.98-6.69%, 39.39-48.00% and 15.58-19.96% of dry matter accumulated in maturity stage were determined roots, stems, leaves, heads and seeds, respectively. Among the cultivars, the highest seed DM accumulation (178 g m^-2) were observed in Dinçer 5-118 cultivar, and the lowest seed DM production (116 g m^-2) were determined in Gelendost 1 line. As a result, the genotypes which accumulate more photosynthetic assimilates in the generative organs such as heads and seeds in place of the reproductive organs such as stems will be choosen during the selection procedures in safflower breeding.
