Title Of Article :
Strong-Ground Motion Earthquake Station Network of Izmir: IzmirNET
Abstract :
Earthquakes which were recorded by the first seismic network of Izmir (IzmirNET) have been located in the frame of this study. Events are concentrated in the first 20 km of earth crust with a local magnitude (ML) interval from 1.0 to 4.0. Swarm-type earthquake activity has been observed in the S of Güzelbahçe, in around Narlıdere-Balçova, Manavkuyu-Bornova area, SE of Gaziemir-Buca line, Menemen area and Izmir Outer Bay. Focal mechanism solutions of 22 earthquakes give normal or strike-slip component dominant normal faulting. Stress tensor analysis has been performed starting from the fault plane solutions, and detected that maximum principal stress axis (σ1) is closer to the vertical while intermediate axis (σ2) and minimum axis (σ3) are closer to horizontal. Results indicate that the study area is under extension regime along N-S direction.
