Abstract :
A Major portion of electrical energy consumption is used by pumps and fans in buildings and in industrial applications in our world today. About 20% of the global electrical energy consumption is used by pumping systems and this rate may go up to 25-50% in some industries. It is possible to say that the energy consumption of pumps may be reduced up to 30% with a good system design and the use of appropriate pumps. When the fact that the initial procurement cost of a pump is about 5% of the total costs incurred during the entire life time of the pump and the operating costs account for about 85% of the total costs, is taken into consideration, the significance of the energy consumed in this industry can be understood better. Design parameters such as the number of blades, blade exit angle and impeller exit diameter affect the performance and energy consumption of the pumps. In this study, it is aimed to determine the H_m=f(Q), P_e=f(Q) and η_g=f(Q) characteristic curves of a single stage deep well pump with number of blades Z=5 and blade exit angle β2k=30°.
