Abstract :
In this study, mechanical and some durability properties of mortars were investigated using different replacement of cement by metakaolin (MK). For this purpose, 8 different mortar mixtures were designed. In mortar mixtures, MK was replaced 0%, 2.5%, 5%, 7.5%, 10%, 12.5%, 15%, 20% by weight of cement. The mortar mixtures have been produced as two groups. In the first group, the water/binder ratio is varying depending on the water requirement of the mixtures. In the second group, super plasticizer chemical admixture has been incorporated to the mixtures in order to have a constant water/binder ratio of 0.5. Bending and compressive strength tests after bending, rapid chloride permeability and alkali-silica reactivity (ASR) experiments were performed on the prepared samples. Based on the results obtained from this study, the mechanical properties of mortars affected positively by using MK and super plasticizer. In addition to this, ASR expansion and rapid chloride permeability were reduced significantly.
