Metallographic Examination of Shot‐ Peened AA1050 Aluminium Material

In this study, metallographic investigation was carried out on shot peened AA1050 aluminium material. S230, S330 and S460 steel shots were selected and used for shot peening process. Shot peening was applied prepared samples. Heat treatment was made prior to shot peening process. As a result of metallographic examination, changes were observed in the micro structure and surface quality due to plastic deformation of the AA1050 material. Increasing the shot diameter, an increase in layer thickness deformed in shot peened surface was observed. In AA1050 material, as a result of shot peening process, a damage at some areas of severe plastic deformation surfaces was determined.
