Determination of Fuel Properties of Wood Pellet’s Made From Turkish Red Pine Forests Harvesting Residues

The aim of this study is to make wood pellets from forest waste resultingfrom logging operations and forest maintenance of Turkish red pine (Pinus brutiaL.). In this context, biomass was obtained from the forests of Muǧla, and this rawmaterial was reduced to particle dimensions – 0,5mm. The resulting particles weredried in open air and moisture content kept to below 10%. They was then bepelletized in a pellet press. The fuel properties of the pellets, such as the heatingvalue, bulk density and elemental composition – Carbon (C), Hydrogen (H),Oxygen (O), Nitrogen (N), and ash content was determined. As a result, the fuelproperties of the wood pellets, such as bulk density, the heating value and ashcontent were found 0.671 gr/cm3, 22.17 MJ/g and 4.91 % respectively. Elementalcomposition (C; H; O; N) were also determined 47.52 %; 5.15 %; 42.16 % and0.26% respectively. The wood pellets made from Turkish red pine forestsharvesting residues fall into the category of EN‐B according to the European Pellet Standards.
