EFL STUDENTS LEARNING STRATEGIES AT DIFFERENT GRADES IN FOUR MAIN LANGUAGE SKILLS
Abstract :
The main purpose of this study is to investigate the learning strategies that English Foreign Language students at different grades use in the four main language skills-listening, speaking, reading and writing. The study was based on quantitative research design in which the participants were freshmen, sophomores and juniors at EFL department, Atatürk University. The data were collected through Language Skills Development Strategy Questionnaire developed by Griffiths (2004) and analyzed through IBM SPSS Statistics 20. The results revealed that while there is not a significant correlation between genders in their strategy uses, there are significant differences among different grades as for their strategy uses in listening and speaking skills and the overall scores. Therefore, it can be concluded that the participants preferred to use different learning strategies and their preferences in some skills changed over time. What is essential is to try to identify the best strategies that provide success in the language learning process
