Abstract :
The aim of this study is to investigate communication skills and self-efficacy levels according to purposes of using the internet of teacher candidates. The study was conducted on a randomly chosen sample of 450 university students at Gazi University Faculty of Education. Personal Information Form, Communication Skills Evaluation Scale and General Self-Efficacy Scale were used to collect data. Findings indicated that there is a significant difference between teacher candidates internet usage that is mostly consist of watching movies or playing games and their communication skill levels. This result indicated that communication skills of students who use the internet to watch movies or playing games are lower than the others. On the other hand, there is no significant difference between using internet to surf the social networking sites or to get new information and communication skill levels. Additionally, there is no significant difference detected between using internet to watch movies, to surf the social networking sites or to get new information and self-efficacy skill levels. However, it is found that there is a significant relationship between using the internet to play games and self-efficacy.
