ENDOMETRIOSIS: AN OVERVIEW OF ITS TREATMENT
Abstract :
Endometriosis is a chronic gynecologic disease that causes chronic pelvic pain and infertility. It has detrimental effects on the quality of life of the patient. Definite diagnosis of the disease is possible by surgical intervention. Assisted reproductive technologies provide successful outcomes in treatment of endometriosis. Management of endometriyomas is especially complicated as surgical intervention may impair reduce the ovarian reserve. Both medical and surgical management of chronic pelvic pain associated with endometriosis provide only short-term relief and have high pain recurrence rates. Suppressive medical therapy such as hormonal contraceptives may decrease the incidence of postoperative pain recurrence. This review presents the latest advances in the clinical management of endometriosis along with different types of peritoneal diseases typically found in endometriosis patients.
