Abstract :
This case report shows that appendix cancer may mimic gastrointestinal pathologies as well as genitourinary pathologies. A female, 42 years old (G5P2A1C2) patient was admitted to the clinic with groin pain. Pelvic ultrasonography revealed a dense adnexal mass of 98x26 mm on the right. Since general surgical pathology was not considered after the patient’s preoperative general surgery consultation, exploratory laparotomy was performed. The uterus and bilateral ovaries appeared normal, but the apppendix was enlarged, 15x5 cm in size. Appendectomy was performed by the general surgeon and the histopathology of the specimen resulted as low grade musinous neoplasia. Appendiceal tumors account for less than 0.4% of neoplasias in the gastrointestinal tract. They are found in less than 2% of appendectomies. Gynecologists evaluating masses in the right lower abdomen should consider the appendiceal masses in the differential diagnosis
