RECONSTRUCTION OF MAGNETIC RETAINED ORBITAL PROSTHESIS: A CASE REPORT
Abstract :
Loosing a part of the face or missing ear, nose, or eye congenitally may play a negative effect on social life and psychology of the patient besides adversely affecting the function as well. Maxillofacial prostheses aim to maintain the health of the hard and soft tissues and to improve the esthetics of patients. Thus it enhances the quality of patient’s life. In terms of retention, maxillofacial prostheses with extra oral implants have obvious advantage over those that adhesively retained. Usually magnets are preffered according to hygienic, mechanical, and esthetic considerations. It is possible to make more esthetic, retentive and acceptable prostheses with advancement in techniques and materials. In this wise, it is easy to adapt the new situation especially by young patients. The aim of this case report is to construct an orbital prosthesis using magnetic attachments for the patient who had 2 implants placed previously in the orbital rim. Furthermore, eyebrows and eyelashes of the prosthesis were embedded in silicone to eliminate the disadvantage of adhesives.
