Abstract :
Disc displacement is one of the most frequently encountered cases in condyle-disc incompatibility of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) pathology. The presence of disc displacement is regarded to be a critical finding in determining the disfunction of TMJ. Disc displacement is a frequently observed pathology, not only in symptomatic patients but also in the asymptomatic volunteers. Disc displacement is the situation that the disc is placed out of the normal position on the condyle. Normal position has been identified in different ways by different researchers. Therefore, careful clinical and radiological examinations are essential in this pathology. In this review, the evaulation of normal disk position and shape of the disc, the classification of various researchers and radiological techniques used in the diagnosis of the disc displacements are intended to be reviewed.
