Abstract :
Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the micro-shear bond strengths of three self-etching adhesive systems to primary and permanent molar enamel. One is an ethanol based single step self-etching system (XenoIII) and the others are water/acetone based all-in-one self-etching adhesive (iBond) and water based all-in-one self-etching system (Adper Prompt L-Pop). Material and Method: Seventy-two enamel sections approximately 1 mm thick were prepared from extracted non-caries human third molars, premolars and primary molars by cutting the proximal surfaces with a slow rotating blade. The specimens were randomly divided in nine groups according to the adhesive system and enamel (permanent molars, premolars, primary molars) used and each group included eight tooth sections. The adhesive systems used in this study were applied to prepared enamel surfaces according to the manufacturer`s instructions. The tooth slice with resin cylinders was attached to the testing device with a cyanoacrylate adhesive, which in turn, was placed in a universal testing machine for micro-shear bond testing. The data’s were converted to MPa unit and analyzed with Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney U tests. Results: There was no statistical difference between self-etch adhesive systems with regard to bonds strengths in both permanent and primary teeth enamel (P 0.05). However, the primary teeth enamel in Adper Prompt L-Pop group showed significantly lower bond strengths compared with permanent teeth enamel. Conclusion: Xeno III and ibond groups showed similar values in permanent and primary teeth enamel whereas bond strengths of Adper Prompt L-Pop group in primary teeth enamel was lower than that of permanent teeth enamel.
