Abstract :
Nasopalatine duct cyst also termed as incisive canal cyst is a developmental cyst arises from embryologic epithelial remnants of nasopalatine duct. It is one of the most common developmental non odontogenic cysts of the oral cavity occurring in about 1 % of the population. It may occure at any age but the majority of cases occur between fourth and sixth decades of life. This is a relatively common cyst that may present as a symmetric swelling in the midline of anterior maxilla near the incisive foramen. The lesion is generally asymptomatic unless infected and is usually diagnosed during routine radiographic examination for dental treatment. Trauma or bacterial infection of the duct and mucous retention of adjacent minor salivary glands may have been as possible etiologic factors, but the role of each has been questioned. In this case report, surgical treatment of an asymptomatic nasopalatine duct cyst was presented.
