Abstract :
Osteoblastoma is a benign bone tumor that arises from osteoblasts, accounting for 1 % of all bone tumors. It is localized in mandible with less than 5 % rate. In this report, a case of osteoblastoma localized in the mandible is presented. A forty-six years old woman was referred to Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Faculty of Dentistry Çukurova University with a chief complaint of pain followed by numbness in the lower lip. Clinical and radiological examinations revealed a calcified lesion in the right mandibular corpus and another lesion in the left cuspid area which demonstrated a mixed, lytic and calcified composition. Both lesions were excised under general anesthesia. Histopathological evaluation revealed that the lesion on the right side of mandible was a complex odontoma while the other lesion found to be an osteoblastoma. Osteoblastoma which is seen rarely should be considered in diagnosis of lesions which cause pain and expansion clinically and show mixed radiolucent/radioopaque view radiologically. Also osteoblastoma should be distinguished from osteosarcoma and aggressive osteoblastoma.
