Abstract
Endodontic retreatment has been generally accepted as an attempt to correct an improperly completed treatment. Some factors cause permanent periradiculer infection even after the succesfull root canal treatment. These are intraradicular infections, extraradicular infections, materials which create foreign body reactions and cysts. The purpose of root canal retreatment is to help for the regeneration of healthy periapical tissues. The likelihood of the success of the root canal treatment will be more, if the existing infection from in the root canal can be removed prior to the root canal obturation. The success of the treatment is strongly dependent on the elimination of infection, the prevention of contamination, the quality of both canal obturation and coronal sealing in the root canal. In this review, etiology of retreatment and new treatment approach were evaluated.
