INFLUENCE OF FLUORIDE IONTOPHORESIS ON MICROTENSILE BOND STRENGTH OF TWO DIFFERENTADHESIVE SYSTEMS
Abstract :
Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of fluoride iontophoresis on the microtensile bond strength (MTBS) of two different adhesive systems. Material and Method: Twenty non-carious human third molars were sectioned parallel to the occlusal plane to expose occlusal dentin. The dentin surfaces were ground with 600-grid silicon carbide (SiC) paper. Teeth were randomly divided in to four groups (n=5). Group 1- Prime Bond NT, Group 2- Fluoride iontophoresis + Prime Bond NT, Group 3- Adper SE Plus and Group 4- Fluoride iontophoresis + Adper SE Plus. Resin composite built up was made to a height of 5 mm on the treated dentin surfaces. The restored teeth were serially sectioned to obtain 1-mm² sticks. Each stick was submitted to the microtensile test performed at a crosshead speed of 1mm/minute. One-way ANOVA and Tamhane’s tests were used to compare the data (p 0.05). The effect of fluoride iontophoresis on dentin surface was examined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Results: The mean and standart deviation microtensile bond strength (MTBS) value (MPa) for the groups were 20.15 (8.13); 15.65 (5.74); 10.38 (7.62); 7.81 (4.09) respectively. The fluoride iontophoresis did not affect the MTBS value of Prime Bond NT and Adper SE Plus adhesives statistically. Conclusion: Prior application of fluoride iontophoresis did not alter the MTBS of the tested adhesives on dentin.
