Title Of Article :
The Carney syndrome associated fibroelastoma and myxoma
Abstract :
Myxoma is the most common benign primary tumor of the heart. Carney syndrome is an autosomal dominant disorder characterized by myxomas (heart, skin, breast tissue), skin pigmentation, myxoid fibroadenomas of the breast, endocrine neoplasia. The most frequent signs of endocrine organ involvement are adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) production-dependent Cushing’s syndrome, acromegaly and thyroid and testicular tumors. Surgery is the only treatment modality of the cardiac myxomas. The other tumoral formations in the syndrome require different treatment modalities according to the localization, size and clinical status of the secreted hormones. A thirty eight years old female patient was presented to general surgery outpatient clinic with complaints of fatigue, palpitations, weight gain, chest pigmentation and on her physical examination left breast mass was detected. The mass biopsy was reported as fibroelastoma. The patient was consulted to the cardiology clinic due to palpitation complaint and echocardiography revealed a mobile 40 x 50 mm sized mass inside the left atrium. Tumor resection was performed with cardiopulmonary bypass. Patient was discharged at the postoperative 5th day. The histopathological examination of the mass was reported as myxoma.
