PERFORMANCE APPRAISAL FROM THE POINT OF HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT AND LEGAL VIEWS: A CONTENT ANALYSIS OF SUPREME COURT DECISIONS
Abstract :
The purpose of the study is to examine the performance appraisal from the point of human resource management and legal aspects. Based on these aspects, two different structures from the literature are choosen. From the aspect of human resource management; system and process perspectives and from the aspect of law; objectivity, method, pecularity of workplaces, continuance, and reasonable tenets are specified. These two structures are examined through a quantitative content analysis of 210 Supreme Court Decisions related to performance appraisal. Findings indicate that system and process perspectives of the performance appraisal are not appreciated by defendant corporations. Additionally, legal tenets of objectivity and method should be taken into consideration in order to have internally consistent and externally integrated performance appraisal.
