Investigation of the Liquefaction Potential of Soils of Saruhanlı (Manisa) Using Standart Penetration Test (SPT)
Abstract :
This study includes the determination of the liquefaction potential developed for the residential area covered by alluvial deposits using SPT data (Standard Penetration Test) under the effect of the probable earthquake in Saruhanlı/Manisa region. For this reason, a total of 26 data were evaluated. It was predicated that Gediz Graben Fault Zone which was a length of 150 km and approximately passes through in a distance of 33 km in the south of Saruhanlı District assuming that it could affect the region and create the biggest peak horizontal acceleration due to earthquake. In a probable earthquake effect, considering that Gediz Graben would be cracked 1/3 of the total length (150 km) and it would produce an earthquake of moment magnitude as MW=7,1. Using attenuation relationships, developed for Turkey, a peak ground acceleration of 0.28g was calculated for the study site. According to the these results, the liquefaction analysis was performed using the SPT data and two locations were determined as liquefiable and one location may be less liquefiable, one location is the least liquefiable. The liquefaction hazard map was executed according to these results.
