Elimination of Misconceptions of Secondary School Students about Heat and Temperature

Abstract
This study was carried out in order to detect and eliminate the misconception of heat and temperature in middle school 5th grade students in the science lesson of Heat and Temperature in the Substance Change Unit and the Effect of Heat on Substances. For this purpose, a school in Mersin province was selected with the appropriate sampling method. The application of Heat and Temperature was done with the 5E teaching model in the experimental group and the 5E teaching model in the control group. Heat and temperature concept test was used as data collection tool. The data obtained by the heat and temperature concept test in the research carried out were analyzed by comparing the frequency (f), percentage values before and after the application and by t-test. The Pearson Product Moments semi-reliability coefficient of the heat and temperature concept test was calculated as 0.78, and the reliability coefficient as 0.88. As a result of the study, it is seen that meaningful learning takes place and misconceptions decrease in the students in the experimental group. The taboo study has contributed to the elimination of misconceptions, though not statistically.
