Title Of Article :
Joining of Fe Based Intermetallics to Stainless Steel, Steel, Aluminum Stud by Using Capacitor Discharge Stud Welding
Abstract :
Fe-Al intermetallics materials are unique class of materials having characteristics of both metals and ceramics. The high temperature strength and their superior oxidation resistance make intermetallic materials excellent candidates for the use in high temperature component design, however, the use of intermetallics as engineering materials are still limited because of difficulty in production and bad weldability of these materials. In this study, Fe26Al, Fe30Al, Fe33Al and Fe50Al intermetallics were produced by arc melting method and joined to 4 mm Ø stainless steel, aluminum alloy and steel stud by using stud welding method with different welding voltage. XRD and microstructural analysis were conducted to characterize Fe-Al intermetallics and their welding zones formed with stud welding. Weldability of samples was investigated by examining the microstructure of the welding zone. Also, the mechanical testing of welding was performed and it is found that the best joining was between Fe26Al and stainless steel studs.
