Investigation of Tool Performance in Cutting Process of AISI 1020 Material by Using Band Saw
Abstract :
Cutting performance of band saws is very important to a good manufacturing process. Some factors such as forces, power consumption, energy and failures determines to the cutting performance. In addition, these factors in determination of the cutting performance must be known for an efficient cutting process. In this study, the tool performance in cutting process of AISI 1020 material with band blade variety used in manufacturing industry has been investigated. A computer controlled machine was used in the experiments. Constant parameters such as feed rate and cutting speed were preferred for determination of the performance of the band blade. Total 80 experiments were made in these parameters. Boron oil was utilized as coolant liquids in the experiments. The cutting forces were measured by using three dimensional dynamometer and the power consumption was also determined by energy analyzer. Micro fractures occurred the cutting process were analyzed scanning electron microscopy (SEM). In the study results, the power consumption and the cutting forces increase till a certain number of the experiments, then it decrease. This result obtain as consistent with the tooth fractures.
