    Synthesis of Needle Like NaNbO3 Antiferroelectric Crystals by Hydrothermal Process and Structural Characterization

  • Abstract
    In recent years, great efforts have been spent on to develop lead-free piezoelectric ceramics, which exhibits high piezoelectric and ferroelectric properties, due to the restrictions on the use of lead and other hazardous substances. One way to obtain high piezoelectric properties in ceramics is producing ceramics with oriented crystolographic texture. In this study, sodyum niobate (NN) powders were synthesized by hydrothermal process for the purpose of using them as template particles in textured lead free piezoelectric ceramics. Since the aim of this study is to obtain anisometric morphology different temperature, OH molarity, Nb molarity and period has been investigated. Needle-like morphology was obtained at 120°C, whereas particles with cubic morphology was obtained at 165°C and 240°C. Needle-like morphology was retained on but needles became larger with increasing time and Na molarity .
