The Effect of Mechanical Activation on Cordierite Formation in Talc-Kaoline-Alumina Ceramic System
Abstract :
The mixture of talc-kaoline-alumina was mechanically activated in a planetary mill for 1 h. The non-activated and activated samples were analyzed with differantial thermal analysis (DTA) at different heating rates and the temperatures of cordierite formation were studied. Comparing with the non-activated sample, it was observed that cordierite formation in the activated sample was actualized at lower temperatures. Using Kissenger equation, the activation energy for cordierite formation was calculated non-activated and activated samples as 663 kJ/moland 553 kJ/mol respectively.
