An Investigation Effect of Red Mud on the Properties of Fired Brick

In this study; the changes took place in brick properties by addition of red mud into the brick body have been investigated. Bricks have been manufactured by extrusion method with the addition of 0 % control series), 5 % and 10 % red mud into the Afyonkarahisar region brick clay. The brick samples have been fired in an electrically heated furnace at 3 different temperatures between 800-900 and 1000 ºC with 100 ºC intervals. Physical and mechanical tests were performed on the fired samples. Fired samples with red mud waste additive were determined on increase on the compressive strength compared to the non-additive samples. The colours of red mud samples was much more red, compared to pure ones.
