Abstract :
Self-Compacting Concrete (SCC) exhibiting high fluidity and segregation resistance at the same time is increasingly used in ready-mix concrete industry day by day. In particular, polycarboxylate based superplasticizers are indispensable components of SCC production. Polycarboxylate basedsuperplasticizers providing unlimited modification possibilities due to its chemical structure canrespond to the need for long-term self-compactability retention in ready mixed concrete industry. The effects of 3 different polycarboxylate based superplasticizers on rheological behaviour of fresh cement paste have been investigated in this paper. The most appropriate superplasticizer was selected in terms of providing effective fluidity and retaining workability by evaluating the obtained data. SCCs were prepared at 2 different water-cement (W/C) ratios by using this superplasticizer. Slump flow diameter, time for reaching 500 mm flow diameter (T500 time), and L-box passing ability of fresh concrete were measured. The mechanical performances of SCCs were evaluated by testing compressive and splitting tensile strengths at 3, 7 and 28 days. Results showed that, SCC maintaining self-compactability up to 1 hour at C30/37 strength grade could be produced by choosing a proper polycarboxylate basedsuperplasticizer.
