Use of Marble Wastes in Flood Walls and Regulation and Protection Structures of River Beds
Abstract :
In the World, demand to the marbles are rapidly increased so that marble quarry wastes and marble wastes due to processing of marbles in factories come out. Those wastes are usually stored on some empty places or on agricultural lands. Such cases cause environmental pollution, visual pollution and occupation of city and agricultural lands. Additionally, marble facilities have to pay for the transportation and land leasing to store marble wastes. Therefore, turning the marble wastes to account and reusing them in different fields are very important for environmental cleanup and economy of Turkey. So in this study, as a new field, using marble wastes in flood walls, river protection structures are discussed and evaluated technically and economically. In addition, some case histories are presented.
