Abstract :
Site selection of medical waste sterilization plants is a critical issue because of its enormous impact on the ecology, and the environmental health of the region. Site selection of these area is a complex process as it requires considerable expertise in diverse social and environmental fields, such as soil science, engineering, hydrogeology, geotechnics, earthquake, topography, land use, sociology, and economics. Multi criteria decision making (MCDM) methods have an extremely wide range of applications, such as urban and regional planning, land suitability mapping and site selection. With the development of Geographical Information System (GIS), various MCDM methods have been applied to spatial dimensions. In this paper is focused the combining MCDM with GIS for site selection of medical waste sterilization plants in metropolitan municipality area of Konya. Suitability map was grouped into three categories as “low suitable”, “suitable” and “best suitable” with an equal interval classification method. Based on the obtained results, 62.50% of the study area has low suitable, 10.93% has suitable and 26.57% has best suitable for medical waste sterilization plants.
