Abstract
The aim of this study is to observe Communicative Action Theory of Jürgen Habermas and Feminist Translation process and to determine common concepts and notions in both process to make a connection between the communicative action theory and translation theories. In this scope, firstly Habermas’ Communicative Action Theory and notions of language, intention and speech-act and how they are defined and discussed has been overviewed. In the second part of the article, the notion of translation as a communicative action in terms of cultural interaction has been studied and the development and concept of translation has been presented in the light of some translation studies theoreticians. Furthermore, the notion of “rewriting” in translation suggested by Lefevere has been studied as the term is prominent to understand the nature of feminist translation activity and its ideological and manipulative characteristics. After defining what feminist translation points out in the fourth part, a translation example from Turkish to English has been made in order to clarify what feminist translation points out in practice. Owing to the fact that the theory of Habermas and feminist translation have significant and similar notions and discussions such as “intention”, “understanding”, “subject”, all these notions have carefully been examined and revealed.
