THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN AKADEMIC TRANSLATION TRAINING AND TRANSLATION MARKET IN THE EXAMPLE OF ISTANBUL UNIVERSITY TRANSLATION STUDIES DEPARTMENT (GERMAN SECTION)
Abstract :
This study proposes to discuss questions and problems that appear in the relation of academic teaching of translation and market, and to reconsider them in the light of changing conditions. Accordingly, we will be examining market’s expectations from translators, along with the formation that translation teaching aims to provide, and market’s connection with academic institutions. This will be done in the example of the undergraduate program of Istanbul University Translation Studies Department (German Section), bearing the general principles and objectives of academic education in mind. Hence, we will try to demonstrate that the education of translation does not disregard the market, it aims, on the contrary, to comply with its changing conditions in terms of both theoretical basis and practice.
