Title Of Article :
Investigation of surface roughness when machining AISI H13 hot work tool steel and application of statistical process control
Abstract :
In this study, the influence of cutting speed and feed rate on workpiece surface roughness was investigated experimentally when machining AISI H13 hot work tool steel which is widely used in mould and die making and characterised by its good thermal stability and high toughness. The machining tests were carried out through turning at six different cutting speeds (70, 100, 130, 160, 190 and 200 m/min), three different feed rates (0.05, 0.1 and 0.15 mm/rev) and at a constant depth of cut (1 mm). Coated cemented carbides were used as cutting tool. The obtained results showed that increasing feed rate increased the workpiece surface roughness values. Increasing cutting speed also increased the surface roughness values. However, the rate of increase with increasing cutting speed was found to be lower than that with increasing feed rate. Statistical Process Control (SPC) was applied to the machining parameters and the surface roughness values and their results were analysed. The surface roughness values obtained for the feed rates selected based on the selected SPC method were out control. However, the surface roughness values for the selected cutting speeds were found to be stable and the process was found to be within the control.
