Abstract :
Isolation, identification and antibiotic resistance of motile Aeromonas species were investigated in 50 chicken meats samples including 20 chicken legs, 20 chicken wings and 10 chicken breasts purchased from different supermarkets and butchers in Kahramanmaras. According to the findings, motile Aeromonas species were isolated from 11 leg samples (55%), 12 wing samples (60%) and 6 breast samples (60%) comprasing 58% of all chicken meat samples. Aeromonas hydrophila was found to be in 5 samples (45.4%), Aeromonas caviae (27.3%) was found to be in 3 samples and Aeromonas sobria (27.3%) was found to be in 3 samples of 11 leg samples. Six samples were A. hydrophila (50%), 4 of them were A. caviae (33.3%) and 2 samples were A. sobria (16.7%) of 12 wing samples. Three samples were identified as A. hydrophila (50%), 2 samples were A. caviae (33.3%) and 1 sample was A. sobria (16.7%) of 6 breast samples. Antibiotic resistance of 29 Aeromonas strains was determined by the disc diffusion method using 23 different antibiotic discs.
