Abstract :
Recycling of vulcanized rubber goods, especially waste tires, is, nowadays, a major environmental problem. Many recycling methods are developed to solve this problem. Waste tires recycling, in general, is a multistep process that begins with grinding tire, separating contaminants and steel wire material, and upgrading the rubber powder by surface treatment. The choice of grinding process is based on the requirements for the final product, such as particle size and particle size distribution, morphology of the particles, and purity of the rubber powder. In this study, an overview of processes for rubber grinding and surface treatment of rubber powder and applications of untreated and surface treated rubber powder in rubber products are provided. It is also investigated by an experimental study on how to characterize the waste rubber powder particle size and material properties.
